My go-to self-watering pot for hoya

Self-Watering Pot for Hoya

Lately I have started experimenting with self-watering pots and different substrates. Why self-watering pots? I will dedicate a separate post to this, but in short – because most of the year in my apartment it is hellish hell in the form of 32-34 degrees, and I have to water my babies every day. This is an insane amount of work.

So, I have quite successfully bloomed hoya memoria in this setup, hoya serpens seems to be growing well, and even hoya polyneura has pushed a new set of leaves after almost a year of doing nothing.

The pot is simple.

  • an inner pot (diameter 45 mm) with a mesh. I like that it is translucent.
  • An outer pot with additional holes for aeration. I started to understand that good aeration is very important in semi-hydro.
  • cotton wick (4 mm diameter).

With this pot I use either my super-light substrate, or Lechuza pon (I like it less), or Leca (I like it more).

In this tiny pot, in my experience, hoyas can live for a very long time. I can add trellis or leave it trail.

The other day I put some linearis cuttings in this setup with my substrate into my prop box, as well as hoya rundumensis splash. Let’s see what happens!
